Yuki HIDAKA

Yuki Hidaka
Music Educator/ Vocalist
Sharing the joy of music, nurturing a creative sensibility
Yuki began playing the piano at the age of three and played the clarinet as well as the bass clarinet as a part of a wind ensemble during middle and high school.
After she was accepted to Kyoto University in 1996, Yuki joined the university's big band and played Duke Ellington repertoires which led to her fascination with jazz music. She also studied under Yoshie Ichikawa around the same time and learned through her not only singing but also how to live life.
Yuki participated in a jazz workshop hosted by the jazz legend, pianist Barry Harris, held in Hagi city, Yamaguchi prefecture in 2007. She was amazed by the way they enjoyed the music and pedagogy they applied, filled with love and discipline, on top of their thrilling performances. She became acquainted with a jazz bassist, Richard Davis, and was offered to study under him for three months at his residence in 2013. In addition, Yuki has been in touch with the singer Sheila Jordan since a coincidental encounter in 2009 .Yuki is constantly inspired by the philosophies and expressions of both domestic and international musicians with her gentle spontaneity.
Lately, Yuki has been focusing on “the joy of playing music together” through teaching music to nursery teachers and children, while also performing regularly. She enjoys resonating with her love of music with kids during her read-aloud projects of picture books and picture-card performances.
